To put it bluntly, one thing I’ve found as a photographer is to break out of my comfort zone. I attended a conference in South Africa last year, but I decided to travel there much earlier to appreciate the country’s natural beauty due to the extreme excitement.
Distance and difference are the secret tonic of creativity. When we get home, home is still the same. But something in our mind has changed and that changes everything.– Johan Lehrer
In a little over a week, I decided to go to the beaches of Cape Town because I toured Johannesburg. I was thoroughly blown away when I got to camps bay. It was perfect, with soft white sand, crisp ice-cold water, cotton candy-like clouds, and lovely people all gathered into one scene.
Cape Town allowed me to show different sides of my creativity. I realized when I returned to Ghana that I was always destined to be a photographer. Cape Town was where I was given the blank canvas, but the tools I was allowed me to create an image.
So the next time you visit Cape Town, be sure to go for a swim, hike to the top of Table Mountain, or get lost in the city streets. Be sure to make the most of your time here because you’ve been given a blank canvas upon which you can create anything you wish.
